Three students from the MS Health Informatics (Bioinformatics) of the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) were selected for the IntMedEdu Hai Now Exchange Programme held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Hainan International Medical Center, China last March 16-27, 2026. The three students were Carla Mae Fernandez, Lawrence Macalalad, and Marco Cristopher Lopez. The program brought together students and professionals from various countries for academic exchange and collaboration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program focused on bioinformatics and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, featuring lectures, academic engagements, and institutional visits. It commenced in Shanghai, where the group participated in academic activities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and its affiliated hospitals, gaining insights into medical education, translational research, and AI-driven healthcare systems. Participants then travelled to Hainan to continue learning more about with expert-led lectures on digital health, chronic disease management, and emerging AI technologies in medicine. Participants also visited leading healthcare institutions, including Ruijin Hainan Hospital and Boao Super Hospital, to observe clinical applications of these innovations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event concluded with a closing ceremony, marking the successful completion of the exchange and the participants\u2019 engagement in international academic collaboration. The MS Health Informatics (Bioinformatics) program of DPSM plans to cascade a version of the training to the UP Manila community. The students were mentored and guided by Dr. Joey Mark Diaz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
