The NuGen Laboratory of the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) partnered with the BS Biochemistry program of the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) through the NuGen Lab Internship Training Program during their visit last June 10, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program of NuGen DOST-FNRI is designed to immerse students in the fundamentals and applications of Nutritional Genomics, equipping them with relevant molecular biology techniques while fostering professional values and a strong work ethic. It also emphasized the importance of scientific research in addressing community health challenges, encouraging interns to design impactful and sustainable research projects in Nutritional Genomics. Interns are expected to apply classroom knowledge in real-world laboratory settings\u2014conducting DNA extraction, genotyping, and sequencing\u2014while contributing to research that addresses complex nutrition-related problems using molecular approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this initial program, DPSM is sending Ms. Arnagreth Alabanza, incoming 4th<\/sup> year BS Biochemistry student to the NuGen Laboratory where she will be undergoing training for a minimum of 200 hours. She will be mentored by the NuGen Lab team headed by Dr. Mark Pretzel Zumaraga. For the succeeding programs, more students are targeted to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
