Advancing its commitment to global academic standards, the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) of the University of the Philippines Manila has successfully deployed its students across leading universities for a rigorous 6-week overseas internship program from June to July, 2026.
This year’s cohort sees four BS Applied Physics students and twelve BS Biochemistry students distributed across leading universities in Asia and Oceania, and Europe: for the BS Applied Physics, they are Renato III Fernan Bolo, Laboratory for Digital and Optical Medical Technology at the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany; Jesse Leann Hernando, Mirai Innovation Research Institute, Japan; Safia Laurice Tumbaga, Centre for Medical Radiation Physics, University of Wollongong, Australia; Aldrin James Garcia, Soft Condensed Matter Laboratory, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. For the BS Biochemistry program, they are Carl Vincent San Juan and Megan Marie Sio, International Center for Biotechnology at Osaka University, Japan; Marielle Parcon and Arwenn Jermoinee Ticman, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia; Gian Gabriell Capule, Ruth-Anne Gertrude Merrera, Sophia Nicole Panday, Johnicky Benedict Salvador, and Lynus Aio Miguel de Torres, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science at Mahidol University, Thailand; Abdul-Azis Hadji Haron, Louis Lapura, and Leo Shane Rubino, Biochemistry and Biomolecular Engineering Division, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia.
The initiative is spearheaded by Dr. John Paul Bustillo and Dr. Julius Andrew Nuñez, the external linkages coordinators of the BS Applied Physics and BS Biochemistry programs, respectively. Most of the students received financial assistance from the UP Office of International Linkages.
