Students and faculty members of the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) participated in the 39th Philippine Chemistry Congress (PCC) from July 2 to 4, 2025, at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The theme of this year’s PCC was “Beyond the Orbitals: Exploring the Multi-Realms in Chemistry.” PCC brings together esteemed chemistry practitioners, scientists, and researchers from the industry, academe, and government agencies to discuss and highlight trends in chemistry. BS Biochemistry students presented their research outputs via oral and poster presentations.
Dr. Marilou G. Nicolas, a former faculty member of DPSM was awarded the 2025 Outstanding Achievement Award in Chemistry Education at the Tertiary Level. The award was received by Ms. Fatima Joy Cruz of the ChemBiochem Unit of DPSM. DPSM Professor Dr. Voltaire Organo of the Philippine Association of Chemistry Teachers Inc. (PACT) was the chair of the National Organizing Committee of PCC 2025.
