The Chemistry-Biochemistry Unit (CBU) of the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM), headed by Dr. Junie Billones, committed to strictly comply with the recommendations given by the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) for Chemistry of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) during its laboratory Inspection and Monitoring visit last February 21, 2025
The team of the PRB of PRC was headed by Hon. Adoracion P. Resureccion, Chair PRB for Chemistry. They emphasized certain findings that the department should follow and improve on in order to be given a Certificate of Authority to Operate (CATO). These include personnel protection and safety devices, chemical storage and waste disposal, ventilation, emergency response, hazard pay, and competencies of lab personnel. The CBU committed to perform the necessary steps to improve on the issues pointed out. The CBU has until the 2nd quarter of 2025, and for some issues, until end of 2025, to comply.
The visit was attended by Dr. Billones, Ms. May Bernardo, Mr. Kriel Munez, and DPSM chair Dr. Marie Josephine De Luna. The CBU is fully committed to improve its laboratory operations in its efforts to have a world-class BS Biochemistry program and to have a good laboratory quality assurance practice.
