Prof. Junie Billones, DOST Awardee for Outstanding Research and Development in Basic Research (Eduardo Quisumbing Medal)
The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) awards Prof. Junie Billones with the Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal for 2016 Outstanding Research and Development Award for Basic Research. This is in recognition of his research computer-aided discovery of leads against druggable targets in mycobacterium tuberculosis. His research program attempts to discover a quicker and cost-effective way to treat tuberculosis which is highly prevalent in the Philippines.
The Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal is given to individuals whose basic research created an outstanding impact in the fields of mathematical, physical, and life sciences. The award is given in honor of Eduardo Quisumbing, a Filipino botanist who had a significant contribution to the field of systemic botany.
Prof. Billones received the award last 25 July 2016, during the 2016 National Science and Technology Week (2016 NSTW) held at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Taguig City. Aside from Prof. Billones, Dr. Ruel R. Suralta of PhilRice also received the same award.
